I can't give this book less than 5 stars. Above all this book made me laugh... Maureen Goo's writing was poignant, fun, captivating and just downright accurate; I think it's safe to say that I fell in love, and can't wait to get my hands on more of her work! As for the story, it wove perfectly with the K-Drama, well, drama. Our protagonist struggles with her feelings, our male lead has a somewhat troubled past when it comes to love, it was all wonderful. As far as light and cutesy contemporaries go, this is a must!
Mix feelings going on....
It's so much fun to read about k-pop/k-drama. I don't watch every single k-pop drama, but it makes me shriek whenever I saw one of the dramas name I've watched pops up in the book. It's like having a friend with common interest. :3
The story is fast-paced and easy to read. Cute contemporary with a cute dad. hahaha.
However, Desi is just way out of the line. I know she's desperate and insecure. But still, I do not appreciate her drowning scene. Ugh. I think it's kind of unnecessary. She could just go profess her feelings and explain to him after he found out the whole scam thing.

This is not funny. This is not cute.
It is not cute for a girl to create a real car accident, to deliberately put people in danger, in order to make a guy fall in love with her.
She literally puts nails on the street and tricks her crush into driving over them, causing a car accident that injures them both.
That's not cute. That's abuse, and if the genders were reversed it would be obvious, but because it's a peppy girl perpetrating the abuse in between drafts of her valedictorian speech, this gets passed around as a fun, kicky rom-com. If a boy had purposefully caused a car accident to manipulate his crush into liking him, we'd tear the writer limb from metaphoric limb. It's not okay for a girl to do it, either, and I cannot believe I have to explain this in 2018.

this is the sweetest book. Si te gusta leer y los k-dramas, este es el libro, hasta incluye una guia de recomendaciones de k-dramas para los que quieren adentrarse en el mundillo.

SO GOOD. I was snort-laughing throughout, plus, in typical Maureen Goo fashion, the book had a diverse cast of characters without being about diversity. Can't wait to have it on my library's shelves.
*I read this June 2017, and I reviewed it then. I read it as a paperback. As always, this is my honest review. All my reviews can be found at www.theterriblebookblogger.wordpress.com
Disclaimer: I was hesitant to pick up this book because everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY pitched as “if you like Kdramas…” and honestly, I’ve never seen Kdramas, I saw half of a Jdrama (yes, I know they’re different), and the little I know about kdramas, I know I am not a fan. However, this book is sweet and enjoyable if you don’t like kdramas.
I liked Desi all right. But there were several times were I genuinely had trouble with her character (and exteme actions that no sane human being would do) and that made my rating go from a solid 4.5 to a 3.5. Desi does some questionable things, which is great, but they didn’t feel realistic and really distracted me from truly getting into the story.
There were moments of complete secondhand embarrassment. Like, literal putting the book down because I could not deal with the embarassment. This book was cute and enjoyable.
The whole plot reminded me a little of The Art of Lainey, with the girl trying to get the guy by making a list of steps to take. However, they’re different enough to not feel repetative.
I especially loved the relationship between Desi and her dad. It was super sweet and charming, and I loved it whenever they had a moment, and there quite a few of those. Obviously, Luca is great. There were a couple of characters that felt strange, literally just there to exist and had no line of dialogue, even when in a group of people having a conversation.
Overall, there were a couple of things that felt neglected within the story, but over all, this was a cute, enjoyable, fun, and quick read that might tempt you to watch a couple of kdramas in your free time.

3.8 / 5
I read this book in pieces, due to my life suddenly being rolled leftways and sideways so i ended up having this book laying by my bed, instead of finished in my bookcase.
The way Maurene Goo writes her books, heals me. I know it sounds odd, but her book [b:The Way You Make Me Feel|35704397|The Way You Make Me Feel|Maurene Goo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1505855827l/35704397._SY75_.jpg|57200490] is the reason why I even go to bookstores, it's what kept me reading.
and so, i loved this book. It was insane, absurd, i definetly was missing from friend dynamic, but i adored the dad. Fact is, the way Maurene Goo writes her family dynamics is why i love them at all.
Now to turn to the main part of this book, the romance, i found it rather odd and a tad toxic at times. Which isn't the worst thing, let's be honest we all have our toxic moments as teens. (i atleast did.) but the way Desi tries to figure out the world by using the things she knows, is quite interesting.
so.. the main reason why this is a 3.8 and not an 5 or a 4,5, is because i would've preferred it to be 100 pages longer so the friend dynamics would've worked out better and we maybe would've gotten some more soccer, or desi being all nerdy.
I liked it, it stands proudly in my bookcase, as this author is one of my favorites for letting my escape from this even more insane real world.
