I don't even know what to do anymore. Emily went to live on an Amish farm because A told her to. What in the world. And everyone else's subplots were not memorable, sorry.
HOW are there 9 more books?!
That all being said, it still was an entertaining book, just kind of blah. I don't know, maybe I'm just getting tired of the formula.

dark lighthearted mysterious

Just have to add a quick review because I am really impressed with the series and author.  Spoilers ahead.

While I haven't read the books before I did read a synopsis long ago (after only reading book one and maybe having seen some of the show?  2011-12ish probably) and so I vaguely remember what happens, namely: Ali has a twin named Courtney who is the true killer (I think?  There's still some I don't totally know).  But going through the books knowing this has been interesting and I can see the breadcrumbs the author has been laying, for example the reference to Ali's "sibling problems" - the book wants us to think Jason but knowing what I know it must be Courtney?  Anyway, in this one Iris mentions Courtney by name and it is just such a passing thing about her being Iris' old roommate but knowing what I know is just so exciting.  It just shows that the author has had this plan at least for a while and is giving the reader so many clues to pick up on.  It feels much less thrown together as a twist ending than I had imagined.

Heartless is the penultimate installment in the Pretty Little Liars series of 8 books. This book was very exciting and pulled me in so many different directions. I was questioning all I have learned from the series so far. Evil “A” has upped the ante and has the four girls from Rosewood wrapped around her finger.

Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer are now the laughing stocks of Rosewood and have been dubbed “The Pretty Little Liars” due to their unsubstantiated stories. The police no longer believe them, and the girls are more driven than ever to solve the mysteries and clear their name.

The new and even more devious “A” has sent the girls on a wild goose chase in all different directions hunting clues. Emily gets sent to an Amish settlement to follow a lead that fingers one of the persons under suspicion in Rosewood. Aria follows a spiritual path and tries again with a seance. Hanna gets sent to an institute by her father who wants her to try therapy to deal with her eating disorder and stress. And Spencer finds plenty of suspicious activity and clues a little closer to home.

I had thought with the next to the last book we would be closer to solving this thing. I was so confused with this book! I thought Emily could be on the right path with her adventure. There may be enough clues at this point to solve the crime if you really dig deep. I don’t think I have it right at this point. Another shocking cliffhanger will have you ready for the final installment in the series: Wanted.

This book is so freaking good. This has yet to be the best one I've read from the entire series. It's not confusing and all the clues makes sense. There's only one thing I'm annoyed about or should I say character. Emily. She's such a crybaby in the books. It's like for everything that happens to her, she feels the excessive urge to tattle to the cops. God she's so annoying. Other than that, the book is amazing. I wish Marlene King will bring back the liveliness and excitement in the TV show because right now, it totally has lost its appeal to me.

While this book varied drastically from the TV show I did enjoy it more than the previous books. I read this all in one sitting which helped me to not compare the book and the show and just appreciate the story for what it was. The psychic was a nice touch and the relationship between Aria and Noel is developing nicely. I was very surprised about Hanna being in a rehab facility and how shady her roomie ended up being. I was so pleased that Spencer FINALLY got some answers about her parentage and that it helped fix her relationship with her family. Emily going to Amish country and discovering Wilden's secret past was unexpected. I am very much looking forward to reading more.

I hope this series starts getting better or I'm never going to make it through all of them. This one was just mediocre. Nothing really happened, no questions were answered and I was left wondering what was the point.
