I thought I’d had enough of Greek mythology retellings, but the cover was pretty so: why not? This was a fresh retelling of a story I’d heard too many times through the eyes of possibly one of the most maligned queens in history. It was sympathetic and kind, yet Clytemnestra wasn’t portrayed as wholly ‘good’ either; she was allowed to be imperfect and that was what I enjoyed the most. The ending was the weakest part, if only because I questioned why Clytemnestra seemingly forgave Cassandra’s murder when moments ago she was devastated? And why did the soldiers/war lords/advisors forgive Clytemnestra? One second they wanted her head, then because she poured her heart out — they forgave her? It felt a bit rushed and I honestly thought the ending would be Clytemnestra’s death, or her letting Aegisthus take the fall for it all. Other than that, I really enjoyed it and am very excited for Babylonia!

I read 50% as I wanted to see a bad bitch take her vengeance but it just wasn’t doing anything for me. Clytemnestra just felt cold and the story wasn’t giving anything new.

This by far has been one of my favorite Greek retellings.

I couldn’t put this book down. I think I read through this book in 2 days. I powered through it because it was so enjoyable. You typically read about such strong, powerful men in stories that it’s nice to hear the strong woman for once.

The type of tragedy a lot of the Greek women go through just seem so intense compared to what the men do. Not that either is better, but the horrors that she went through!

Some of these Greek retellings are either not good or are just mid. I may feel this way because I have been spoiled growing up with the Percy Jackson but I just have been underwhelmed from the Greek retellings I have read. However, this one is actually great. Highly recommend I couldn't put it down.
