Damn. What a ripper of a book 2 to the dark peak series.
Cari Hunter ups the game in this one.
The writing is just as magnificent if not even more so and the crime brutal and intriguing.
The development and shifts in Meg and Sanne’s relationship is captivating, while the book touches on among other things classism, past traumas, and family dynamics.
Top notch. Can’t wait to dive in to book 3

I think this is my favorite Cari Hunter book. I may say that after each book of hers that I read but it doesn't make the statement less true.

I enjoyed the case, the characters, and the relationship. I liked it all. Combine that with the author's fantastic writing skills and the superb editing and proofreading and it's a winner!

I received a copy of the book from the publisher via NetGalley.

An honest review thanks to Netgalley. I love Cari Hunter, but this series is something more, even though I love a good romance book this series puts romance at the edge of the story. Meg and Sanne give us the hint of romance that we need to give Sanne more layers than just a detective. Hunter's books are full of intrigue and suspense, placing the reader into the book itself as more pieces fall into play.

A brilliant second entry in the Sanne & Meg series, I enjoyed this just as much (if not more!) than the first book ([b:No Good Reason|23258879|No Good Reason (The Dark Peak, #1)|Cari Hunter|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1411416355s/23258879.jpg|42799899]). This is lesfic thriller writing at its finest. Nuanced, intelligent, interesting women who have their own distinct and well-rounded personalities, crafted together with a pacy storyline that twists and turns - this series ticks all the boxes.

The storyline here features a well plotted crime with a very interesting payoff, and some classic detective work from the wonderful Sanne, who is quickly becoming one of my favourite literary detectives.

My only problem now is that (so far) there is just one more book in the series - I'm torn between reading it straight away, because I so want to be back with these characters, or savouring this one and keeping the third as a treat! I very much hope that [a:Cari Hunter|4826521|Cari Hunter|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1337455635p2/4826521.jpg] writes many more in this series.

Sanne and Meg’s story continues in this second book of The Dark Peak series.  Detective Sanne Jensen’s has to investigate a murder which no one seems to care for.  Additionally, life hasn’t been quite the same for a while for Sanne and she is not in a good place.  Meanwhile Meg has to deal with her brother’s demands for money which she simply does not have.

My rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I was disappointed to find out that at the start of the book Meg is not with Sanne, but with someone else, whom I didn’t really care for. There was something about this person that just didn’t sit right with me and I definitely missed the relationship and the interactions that Meg and Sanne had in the first book.

There are some authors who fall into a sophomore slump after writing a very good first couple of books, but I was glad that this was not the case for Cari Hunter.  The mystery kept me captivated as well as curious on whether Sanne and Meg will find their way together.

I would definitely recommend reading this series in the order it was published.
