“And I know then what I've always known: Campbell is never going to make a space for me to fit. I'm going to have to demand it.”

This is a cute story with some nice characters, but it was a bit too perfect for my taste. Everything always turned out good for Liz so you could already guess how the story is going to end.
Nonetheless, Mack and Liz are an adorable couple.
I also liked that the main character had a realistic development. She grew at her own pace and did not change her whole personality.
It was a nice and easy read with a wholesome story.

“I don't believe in fairy tales and love at first sight and all that, but for just a second, I think this girl and those eyes and the way her freckles dot the entire expanse of her face are cute enough to make a believer out of me.”

I really enjoyed this reading! The plot goes beyond a simple competition to become prom queen. I had a great deal of empathy for Liz, whose adventure is even harder because she is a queer girl of colour. It also made me aware of the difficulty for young Americans to continue higher education, especially because of the price to pay (we have much more financial help in France). It was the first time I read a contemporary, and I loved it! I loved the way it was read (audiobook), I really had the feeling Liz was sitting next to me to tell me her story. I think it's a perfect book for summer ☀️

Technically my second read of this book but it was definitely an enjoyable read
Gabi and Liz's relationship was the best thing out of the book in how when you think about it it's quite complex
When I first got this book I got it cuz I heard everyone saying it was good but didn't realize it was a queer book so that surprised me in a good way
Overall look forward to reading more of the authors books

It doesn’t take much for a book to make me cry, ESPECIALLY if it has strong sibling ties, but this one has be tearing up again and again and again. One of the best YA books I’ve ever read.

This book was a complete delight. The protagonist, Liz Lighty, faces real and heartbreaking challenges but the world turns out to be just a little bit kinder than we might often experience it to be. The concept of a prom-obsessed town was a clever setting for this coming-of-age, first love story.
