I loved Carr's The Alienist, but I couldn't get in to this one. I read about 150 pages, and was bored, so put it down.
Having just read Dust and Shadow a few months ago, this Holmes fiction didn't quite measure up, but it was still a fun time, especially if you like a good ghost story!

I wanted to love this, but it just felt a little flat. Tudor history was never the most interesting to me, and there seem to be two mini mysteries here and neither really seems to excite. Also, the audio version was read by a great Watson, but whenever he did Sherlock, it came off so nasal that you got a bit of inspector Gadget instead.
I'm halfway through and realizing that I've already read it! Ha, well its still enjoyable the second time. (I bought a stack of used paperbacks for pool reading without worry of dunking) But you need to be a Sherlock Holmes fan I think to really appreciate it. Caleb Carr is very wordy, I love his book the Alienist - I'll have to add it to my good reads list.

Tried reading, but I couldn't get past the writing style. Odd, because I enjoyed The Alienist and The Angel of Darkness so much.
