You know those books you sometimes have on your shelf for an age but you never get around to reading it and when you finally do, you sort of mentally kick yourself for not reading it sooner. Well, this was definitely that kind of book to me.
It is one of those books that make me cry, laugh, smile and it broke my heart but made me happy at the same time. I didn't expect what happened but I can't imagine it happening any other way. I love all the characters, ALL. And I loved their stories.
This was just an intense emotion-packed book. LOVE IT!

Where to start? 1. It seemed like this author is obsessed with happy endings. I'm sorry, but everything does NOT work out so easily all the time. So Harper is apparently a godess and every character in the book is obsessed with her even when they know she's sleeping with someone else? Or even when pregnant, BRandon tells her all other guys want to hook up with her because she wears pregnancy well. Hmmm. 2 . Make up your mind, author. Does she have a family or no? From a broken, dysfunctional family or have a mom and dad? Because its pretty unrealistic they in less than a year time her roommates parents are literally "mom and dad". Even so much so they are perfectly fine with her throwing a fit, watching their SON die and her pass off the baby to the ex two weeks later. Just too unrealistic for me. And seriously every other page they are confessing love for Harper? And by they I mean every male character in the book. Space filler I think.
Okay, I am a little late on the times and I have finally gotten to “Taking Chances” and I am sad that I waited so long to read this gem. Harper is finally out from under her father’s thumb and has moved to a college far far away. This opens the door to so many things that Harper hasn’t been able to do; mainly boyfriends.
This book sets up a hate/love relationship with Chase right from the beginning. You as the reader will love him but want to ring his neck for being such a jerk. However, when she starts dating Brandon, I found myself torn between whom I really wanted her with. Brandon was absolutely terrific and I couldn’t find anything wrong with him but Chase still lingered in the back of my mind, just like he did with Harper.
But wait, this is not just a love triangle. This is a sit in your bedroom and sob story as well. The worst thing was, I knew it was coming. The only way I can explain is that if you ever have watched the show FRIENDS and the episode where Joe is reading “Little Women” and he gets to the part where Beth is sick and Rachel helps him put the book in the freezer because he just couldn’t finish it, that is what happened to me. I had to prep myself for this ending because I knew it would be heart breaking.
I tried to get the clip to show up but it did not work. Go check it out.

This was the ultimate love triangle book. Not in a great way. And everything in this book was too easy and worked out just right. I mean Harper has never had a boyfriend or anything, then as soon as she gets to san Diego she falls in love with two guys right away! And they fall in love with her too. She keeps saying how she sees herself with Brandon, but she just can't get over her physical reaction to Chase so what does she do? She cheats on her boyfriend and sleeps with Chase and without protection! She just doesn't care cause she needs him that much. Um..hello? Really? So what do you think happens? Of course she gets pregnant. So she dumps her boyfriend and gets with Chase. Yey! Okay so at least it was sort of a choice even though she still pines for Brandon. Whatever. Then...the lamest of all the author kills of Chase. Way to end the love triangle in a horrible way. I was just like are you kidding me? Really? And after Harper flips out for...well not no reason, but she should have been able to listen some. But really what did I expect. Harper was always just doing and thinking whatever she wanted with little regard for others. So Chase dies so yey - she can now hook up with Brandon. And btw Brandon's family doesn't care that she cheated on him and is having another guys baby, and Chase's family (who is also coincidentally like her family! She calls them mom and dad! I HATED that) don't care that two months after their son dies she is marrying another guy. Yey! I am glad no one cares about anything. I just wanted to bang my head on the table! It was just too much. Harper couldn't choose really, so they kill off one guy and then everyone can just talk about her hooking up with someone else right away is what he would have wanted. Ugh! So lame. And the book just kept going on and on. I wasn't sure when it would stop. And it was so cheesy and fake, not good.
I DNF'ed this pretty quickly.
I really couldn't get on with the heroine. She was very naive and the typical skinny, big-boobed, pretty girl next door. The storyline moved too quickly for me to become invested in the story and it actually made the characters more dislikable. None of the side characters held my attention either and I couldn't carry on listening when I knew we weren't gonna get on.

A story with gut wrenching pain that will have you needing Kleenex, but is worth the read.
READ!
I read this book because I read from ashes and I loved it but this book is a love triangle and I can normally tell from the beginning who she will end up with but this book I had no idea. this book gave me so many emotions that I would laugh one chapter and cry so much during the next, but you have to read this book it is amazing

Ok I can't do it this was a rare DNF for me. I'm still so fucking pissed off! To me the way she decided to handle this love triangle was an easy copout. I mean seriously - still fucking pissed I am totally team Chase and this was bullshit!
That being said. I loved the first 3/4 of the book I read. It was great and funny. All three characters were fabulous. So I wouldn't not recommend it. Instead I say try it yourself and you might not feel the way I did.
My advice to you all is to never read this book. Fast paced romance mixed with tragedy and love squares (yes, squares) just seemed like a mess to me.
