I did not like this at all.
In most of the stories I couldn’t make any sense of them, they were so confusing for seemingly no reason.

I wish all the stories in this collections would have been as good as Unguided Tour - that one was really something.

This was a very confusing collection of short stories if there ever was one. I quite liked the first one, Pilgrimage, and naively expected the rest to follow the lead. Oh, but was I mistaken. Pilgrimage is the only short story in the book that reads 'normal'. It is an intimate autobiographical vignette, a cherished memory. I sincerely wished there was more.

But I was simply not prepared for the surrealistic, bizarre, and chaotic stories that followed. Each written in a different style too. There is no opening to a Sontag's short story, and sometimes there's no ending either. There's a middle of what feels like a storm of characters and random thoughts. It took me a while to get into each one, if I could manage to do so at all. I ended up quite liking American Spirits and The Dummy too. They were not my cup of tea in the beginning, but I thought they carried quite funny metaphors about American society. I have no thoughts about the rest, I didn't care for it. This book caused me to get into a reading slump and I am happy I'm done with it now.

Esperava muito mais da Sontag. Nunca lhe tinha lido a ficção e não me deslumbrou.
