I wanted to love this, but telling the same story from three perspectives got so repetitive, and the alleged magic piece didn’t really have a purpose except to make the book unnecessarily longer. There were also more similes than any one novel needs.

I really enjoyed the split perspectives of this novel, as a splintered family tries to find its way back together and grapples with the history that has kept them apart. Explores fortune, family, obligation, choices, and how choices dictate our future whether we want them to or not. I loved how all of their stories shone light on each other, explained decisions and consequences, and offered different perspectives on major life events. A must-read if you like multi-generational sagas, coming of age stories, discovering identity, or complicated familial relationships.
