The Flux was everything I'd hoped for after reading Flex and more. The exciting conception of Magic and flawlessly executed characters return and are strengthened as Steinmetz delves deeper into the world and its possibilities. The characters face new challenges, and they grow and change in their relationships and personally. I was never broken out of the story to question the author's decisions, and instead was the best kind of complete immersed in the fast paced, and yet incredibly thoughtful plot.
I'm sorry that I like these questionable books - but the magic system is so cool! I hate the characterisation of Valentine forever and ever but everything else is pretty great!
This was a really fun ride, although maybe Paul was a bit dense for not catching on sooner... still, I'd highly recommend these.
What still sticks with me a month after reading:
1. “You rooked me!” Something about that particular turn of phrase
2. Lenny meets the King of New York
3. Aaliyah playing with her new friends in the courtyard; sowing the seeds of a revelation that proves pretty long-term tragic for the majority of said friends, in fact
4. A guy who might be a moviemancer, or might just be a this-one-specific-movie-mancer...
5. A Flux EULA
6. Once again, Paul misjudges the exact nature of an antagonist’s ‘mancy until it’s nearly too late...
