I gave this three stars because it was a quick easy read, but didn’t rate it higher because I grew tired of main character Frankie, whose obsessive behavior towards her sister was irritating. Instead of simply talking with her sister, Frankie made assumptions and behaved irrationally in hopes of trying to help her. Instead she made matters worse. I also wondered why the author included a daughter for Frankie because she was primarily a non-factor in the story. I also agree with one of the other reviewers who asked about several additional storylines that seemed to go nowhere.

A good editor with tightened focus on main storyline would have improved this.

Thank you William Morrow for my free book.

The story is a slow paced character driven novel, but the short chapters helped keep me engaged. I did figure out one of the twists, but as far as the killer goes I was wrong so that’s a plus in my book! I also would have liked Izzy’s point of view throughout the story as well. Would definitely read another book by this author.

RATING: 1 STARS
2022; William Morrow/HarperCollins

I really enjoyed Chavez's first novel, so was excited to read this one, but this one just didn't work for me. I honestly kept listening to this one only because I had enjoyed the first book so much. I was hoping it would get better. I didn't feel the suspense of the story. The characters were unlikeable, but it was more I did not feel invested to see how it ended. I did finish it, so I gave it 1 star!

***I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through Edelweiss. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.***

I received a copy of this ebook in a Goodreads giveaway.
I am new to thrillers but I don’t always love them, but I really enjoyed this one. It wasn’t the most twisty and turn-y but I thought it was well told and kept me invested the whole time.
