Wow, that was a surprise!   This is an enthralling story, set in a harsh world and filled with a fascinating spectrum of characters.   Can't wait to dive into the next in the series.

this book was pretty good, I was going to give it a 3.5 until the last sentences where it's revealed that she is like the ruler of the Kingdom. that made me mad because I feel like it would have felt a lot less like every other YA dystopian if she went to the Kingdom as a healer and wasn't like the princess or Queen or whatever of the Kingdom.

I am kinda kicking myself for not reading this sooner bc damn!!!

I absolutely love the fmc Kiva, definitely a badass but also just knows how to survive. I’m also insanely attached to the side characters and the love interest Jaren as well! The story with the underlying mystery about the illness, the trials, the romance, the mystery around Jaren and the rebel queen really kept me hooked the entire time and I really did not see a lot of it coming, especially the end holy shit!!

I will say tho that this book is overall very dark with the prison setting and trials being quite brutal and described in detail, so keep that in mind!

All in all insanely excited to continue this series to see where everyone’s loyalties lie.
