Picked this one up thinking I’d definitely read the first one…only to realize I never actually read the first one, and got the cover confused with all of the others that look exactly like this one in this genre. Or maybe I thought about reading it at some point but never did. Anyway, it didn’t matter…I was able to follow along just fine. This had a lot of windy twists and turns, which kept my attention despite not really loving the choices/decisions the protagonist chose along the way. And I was able to pretty easily predict the final culprit, but that normally doesn’t bother my enjoyment. Sometimes I’d rather the crumbs lead to the right trail than a completely unsupported plot swerve for the sake of it.

The conclusion came fast, and I’m afraid it didn’t land as well as it should have on me: I unfortunately was driving and took a wrong turn, so my attention was split. I had to rewind a bunch which made the impact sadly less impressive I think (my fault.) So anyway, yeah I liked it, it kept me interested, but not the best I’ve read. I would be interested in picking up other books by this author, but if this is a series that continues, I think I would skip the next one. Not sure I particularly like Lo all that much.

What would a psychological thriller main character be like ten years later, settled down with a spouse and kids? Lo Blacklock from The woman in cabin 10 is back, along with some of the other characters. Still fast paced, maybe not quite as edge-of-your-seat, but I appreciated that. We've all aged.
For those readers who said "but did we really need another Lo Blacklock novel?", I will say what I say to people who hate a sequel or a remake: it's not required, if you don't like it, don't read it.

Shockingly predictable with an annoyingly codependent protagonist
