My first Ruth Ware book—and I really enjoyed it! You definitely don’t need to have read the first one to get into this. It’s twisty without being over-the-top, with great characters throughout (Lo especially—her British expat energy, the mum guilt—so relatable). Recommend!

I found Lo to be quite annoying in the first book but she was even worse in this one. I don’t mind when people make silly mistakes like in certain cozy mystery but in this case it almost made me DNF. Too many stupid mistakes/decisions, too much illogical thinking. The narrator didn’t help: Lo was insufferable and those kids, oh my god, I almost skipped ahead. And what was with all those fucks?
