This is a typical Ruth Ware, a fun read with plot twists and turns. Maybe a little too much narrative manipulation. I listened to this one as audio and I must say, the narration of the children in this book was AWFUL. The whiny, fake-sounding g child voices almost made me quit. It’s a whiny, completely obnoxious tone of voice that turned me off immediately. Like fingernails on a chalkboard. The only reason I kept listening was because the kids drop out (with minor appearances throughout and a brief return at the end). Beware 😳

I got this book from the library and the digital version was returned automatically. I'm not going to finish the book because of the unlikeable characters. The narrative felt like it was constantly trying to convince me of Lo's odd choices. Also,
what passport control is just going to be concerned about a long line with incorrect credentials? Isn't that the primary reason passport control exists?
Finally, to me the story felt very point to point without a lot of tension and suspense.

I was interested to read a Ruth ware sequel because she tends to do a great job ending a story in each book. It was good to see Lo return in a good spot but it just felt really unnecessary. The story had too many elements hinging on unpredictable scenarios having to work out a very specific way for things to work out (which it continuously did).
