“Hardship teaches a person life.” A beautiful story about human strength and what it means to survive. And it’s set in a forest!

LOVED this book. I love historical fiction that teaches you something you didn't know about history but teaches you this in an engaging story. Harmel's author's note that told us she spoke to Aaron and Henryka was incredible. I wil remember for a while that he told all of us to be nice to others if at all possible and always help vulnerable people. What a strong message. Thank you Kristen for this incredible story of strength and resilence.

Great story about Polish Jews hiding in the woods from Nazis. A story of survival despite all odds.

11/23. Re-read. I had forgotten how much the book centers on religion.
