This is the second time I’ve read the book and probably not the last. It is a telling of a translation of a story that happened in Viking times by an Arab man who got caught up with a Viking party. The only reason why I say that it is not diverse is there are no female characters in the book.

Decent story. Some parts were tough to get through.

It's funny because I was reading that the whole point of Cricton writing this was a bet made with a friend who worked in Classics on whether he could make Beowulf more exciting. He didn't. He just rewrote it in a different way but made it just as "exciting."

Lent to me by a friend to read. I like the concept of the book, a flip on the racist "exotic savage" stereotypes - i.e. a thoughtful Arab Muslim witnessing the barbaric nature of Nordic tribes. But I don't think Michael Crichton should have been the one to write it.

Great read for those who enjoy both the 13th Warrior film or stories such as Beowulf. It is an alternate telling with an interesting mix of pseudo-historical flavors. The book is clear, fast paced with interesting historical footnotes along the way.
