I will never not love these stories or these characters. This one is desperately sad in places, but somehow also uplifting. The depth of characterisation is masterful, and I enjoy the introduction f new side characters and the snippets of backstories for the main characters.
All the stars!! This series is just the best. I have been both excited for this one and putting it off not wanting to say goodbye to this cast of characters (before learning there's a 5th coming out this year!). The mystery was fun and full of the usual antics; it takes a slight backseat to the gang's emotional journey this time around and many moments moved me to tears. The writing continues to be such a clever balance of smart humor and deep heart.
So much of the writing on grief is spot on, but this really hit home for me: "Elizabeth almost burst into laughter, that life was daring to continue. Didn't they know? Hadn't they heard? Everything has changed, everything. And yet nothing has changed, nothing. The day carries on as it would."
