The septuagenarian members of the Thursday Murder Club are beloved friends of mine and they were up to their usual covert antics in #4 The Last Devil to Die, which proved to be the usual very satisfying read. As soon as I reached the last page of this story, my mind leapt ahead, eagerly anticipating the publication of a new book in the series.
But. Just like with movies, which I normally watch from opening credits to the end of the closing credits, I pay close attention to every page between the covers of a book (one of the many advantages of reading an actual book vs. an audio version). So, imagine my dismay, when I discovered in the author's acknowledgements that Richard Osman's next novel is going to be "something new, about a father-in-law/daughter-in-law detective duo". Gadzooks! I'm striving to keep an open mind about this, and in my heart of hearts I know that Osman will deliver, but I am already homesick for the merry gang of Coopers Chase Retirement Village!

Listened and read on my own. Another winner. Did you know that Richard Osman is 6’7”? He was very funny, very clever during his season of Taskmaster.

This book series has been hysterical. I absolutely adore every single character, and this book made me love them even more. And oh, how heartbreaking it was, too. I cried and cried...and then laughed, and then cried again. Keep writing these books, Richard Osman, because not only are the smart and funny, they also make me feel less anxious about aging!
As exceptional as the previous three Thursday Murder Club books. This book has a lot to offer besides the thrilling mystery. A 5 Star and a MUST READ without a doubt.
