So much deeper and emotional than the others and I must admit, I wasn't ready for that and didn't really let myself go there. Maybe I should give the audio version of these a try as people seem to really love them.
I love these books so much, make no mistake. I was just wanting the funny bits more this go round and I tore through it pretty quickly.

It had me in tears at times, but it was so good.

Though still witty and fun, with great octogenarian characters, this book was the most serious of the series. Aging is taken very seriously in so many ways: friendship, love, dementia, frailty, wisdom, and more. The mystery was a good one, much like the others with various twists and turns, but the real story is in the characters. I love the first book which introduced us to this quirky band, but this one is right up there too. Really a good read.

3.5

Probably the most emotionally resonant of this series to date, with a somber tone and heavy topics. The mystery itself was quite simple in the end though, and I'd have liked a little more twists in that plot.

Couldn't fault it.  Love Osman's blend of wit and empathy.

Notable quote for me which I apply to my experience of chronic illness rather than grief as intended in the book: '. . . When you opt out of time, and let it carry on doing its thing while you get on with yours.' (p. 319)  Perfectly captures my experience of having to be on a completely different time schedule to everyone else, different to what is expected.

I so enjoy the characters in these books. Its really more about the relationships than the mysteries. As a fan of Brit tv and mysteries, this satisfies.
