this is a 6 star series for me. holy shit.
i cannot put into words how much ive thought of these books & characters every single day for the past five months since i read the first one.
god man Helene deserved so much more she was put through the fucking RINGER. her story was so sad, so heartbreaking, but to see her come out on the other side and persevere the way she does was beautiful.i really liked the hunting of her and Musa possibly building a relationship. with them both having lost their lovers, to find each other and understand each other is just so beautiful truly.
elias i struggled with so hard this book. my guy has been put through some shit and to constantly be at war with himself was so frustrating i wanted to shake his shoulders and say WAKE TF UPP!!! i was a bit disappointed that we only got a few chapters of him as fully himself. i would have liked to see more of him and Laia together because she was fighting for him the entire book but he was resisting her nearly every time, even before the battle when he went back to telling her to call him Soul Catcher. i’d have liked to see him with Mamie and his foster brother and idk just being him again i guess 😭😭
oh Laia…how headstrong and stubborn and beautiful she is. of course it was frustrating to have her be so against what Rehmat was telling her the whole time and being so set on doing her own path, but i think that was very in character for her and shapes her story. she learned from her mistakes at every turn, and she makes up for them in tenfold. the way she was able to approach the Nightbringer, and understand him was just so her yknow?
to the characters that died….man did Avitas and Faris and Livia and Darin hurt. they were such good characters and my heart broke with each one of their deaths. i really, REALLY wish that Avitas could have lived but i understand the vision. doesn’t make it hurt any less 🥲 now Darin…i didn’t see the vision with him dying and i still don’t 😭 i did find Keris’s ending very interesting. the fact that she was this terrifying renowned soldier that felt no remorse in her killings, to be broken down by a single word. “lovey” it brought an interesting and humanizing angle to her story, i will mourn for who she once was but what she did cannot be forgiven
anyways…holy shit. i cried throughout basically all of the last 100 pages and these characters i will carry with me for a long time. what a beautiful story, i thank you sabaa tahir for gifting us this series.

This is so painful, I don't want to say goodbye to them, they have engraved themselves deep in my soul, I can't believe this creativity, and even though my favorite characters have died, it remains a happy ending, I was satisfied with everything, except one thing.. Harper's ending, Helen deserved better, I hope in the afterlife, they will meet, I don't know how to end my life after I finished this series
