Another great mystery and setting. These small town families hide so many secrets and think that helps protect the kids from the consequences of their parents. Turns out the truth shows up even after all the lies.
I thought this was an entertaining YA murder mystery. Lucy was a very likeable main character who did a really good job of leading us through the mystery to the eventual solution. Set in a rural location near a wildlife preserve, it is the perfect place for the suspense that is created in the story. The secondary characters were interesting and varied and the plot twisted enough to keep it very interesting. I think YA readers who are fans of the murder mystery genre, will enjoy this one.

The Last Girl Breathing is now my favorite Court Stevens book! This is a thriller that you won’t want to put down. As with any Court Stevens book, the backdrop is in a rural community and this community is grieving the loss of 2 teens suspiciously in the same area where a dam broke years before, killing several. We follow the perspective of Lucy as she’s searching for answers. Adults will enjoy this one as much as teens. It’s nice to have a thriller where I didn’t have to worry about the dog! I did get a little lost with so many characters, but that is the natural of a story set in a small town. The community plays a large part of the story.

Fast-paced and engrossing, this is a YA thriller at its best. While I found the whole book was written really well, I thought that the scenes of the first tragedy were particularly exhilarating, and I found myself holding my breath throughout.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for a review. This was my first Court Sevens book but it won't be my last.

Could not put this book down. No joke picked it up three times total, finished it in those three reading days. Such a great read, love the "that weekend" and "present" timeline at the same time. Absolutely did not see any of this coming. Keep the books coming Court, absolutely cannot wait to read more of your work!

Eight years have passed since the dam broke and caused a flood that swept away Lucy's younger brother. The dam breaking was just an act of nature, or was it? Now tragedy strikes again when Lucy’s stepbrother disappears and ends up dead a few days later. This sets Lucy on a path to find out if the events are related and to find out the truth of who is behind it all.
I really enjoyed this book, with all of the twist and turns. Last Girl Breathing is truly a who-done-it in the best way. I can’t wait to read more by Court Stevens.
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to enjoy this ARC.

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I have read most of Court Stevens' books. Her writing and character development are strong and sharp, along with the plot for the most part. I'm not entirely sure of the execution because there were many moving parts and suspicions.
Lucy Michaels is an Olympic hopeful with the air rifle. To be honest, I didn't know it was an Olympic sport. Anyways, she's 18 years old and survived the dam break 8 years ago, but she lost her little brother Clay. Now she's finishing high school and close with her stepbrother Martin. Except until Martin tells her suspicions that tie his dad and Lucy's stepdad to the dam break. Then Martin disappeared. Soon, a search and rescue team is formed, and it's discovered there's 2 more missing people: Deuce, a young cop whose dad is the town sheriff Owl, and Astrid, her ex boyfriend's sister.
The first half of the book is about recovering two bodies, and then someone is arrested. Then, in the second part, Lucy has moved away, and after winning bronze in Paris, she gets a clue that Astrid may be alive. There are many red herrings and only 1 actual truth. I wasn't altogether surprised, but Lucy had made these people her family. So, trusting the wrong person could cost her life.
TW for abuse in the past, kidnapping and control, hunting for sport and murder.
