More of a 4.5 star!

This really floored me. As I would listen to this audiobook it was so hard to hear that this is the type of life that someone would live on the daily. It was hard to hear. But at the same time not everyone even in the same country lives the same way as you. Every persons story is completely different than yours.

The way that Tara decided to tell this story was amazing. I loved the way it flowed.

The only reason I’m docking this is the personal preference of a chapter late in this novel (I think 25ish) that was really hard for me to stomach as I listened to it and it just triggered me a little.

There are a lot of trigger warnings for the life that Tara lives and experienced. A lot of verbal abuse, physical abuse, animal abuse, and a lot more where I’m forgetting what it all is. But just be warned going into something like this memoir that her life was really messed up and to have caution if these things might trigger you.

But I really recommend everyone check it out and listen or read her story. It’s an important one.

Reading this book is a difficult undertaking. The experiences that Tara Westover has lived through are heartbreaking. Countless times I wanted to reach through the book and pull her away from the abuse, the brainwashing, and the heartbreak. This is a book I will not soon forget.

This book was a great way to start the new year. It is astonishing that a person who came from such a difficult background could accomplish so much. The details about her life were well presented and the book was engaging throughout.
