Mmm somewhere between 4 & 5stars. It does jump around a lot between different characters and timelines and that’s where I see some of the lower reviews coming from. I eventually got used to this format and thoroughly enjoyed it once I did! I think because of how different this book was from any other book I’ve read is why I feel inclined to bump the rating up. The authors writing and setup were just too interesting and creative.

This was not a book for me, which is a shame as my friends love it, and on paper so should I. I love mix timelines, non linear storytelling and multiple POV. I love sci-fi and historical books. I love books about books and librarie  (obviously) BUT i felt held at bay from the characters and did not connect with them.

I felt the climax of the stories should be the culminating moment and would have preferred to follow them at that point, not yave everything tied up. The pace dragged for me and then many moment of character development and character emotion was missed as it wrapped up quickly.

Also struggled with Seymore's character, i am not neuro-divergent myself but the writing of him felt ableist.

Such a shame but there we go.

4.5 stars. This book is a beautiful representation about the value of fiction. I loved the interconnectedness of the characters that lived contrasting lives as well as, or rather because of, its larger implication that we all are bound by mysterious forces. This multi-genre work definitely met my expectations and despite the page count I was engaged in the story the entire time, it did not feel too long. I’d recommend for fiction lovers and long-time readers!

“The world as it is, is enough”

At 26 I felt the same awe and wonder listening to this as I did when I was 16 reading Anthony Doerrs last book.
