It took a while for this book to hook me, but once it did, I couldn’t put it down. I love the way Anthony Doerr writes the thoughts of his characters. They feel so real. I loved Anna and Konstance. The way everyone’s stories tied together was so satisfying. This book feels like an ode to books and storytelling.

I loved this book!!! The switching perspectives kept me constantly engaged and wanting to read the next chapter to find out what happens. This story was tragic and heartwarming at the same time, and the characters were all so interesting. The way the characters’s stories mirrored that of the fictional cloud cuckoo land was so fascinating, and the way their stories not only matched that of the myth, but how the story of the manuscript lives on through each of them. the gradual unraveling of the story through the past, present, and future made me want to just keep reading. I love a good “everything is connected” story and this book really lived up to that. Despite some of the characters stories not overlapping with the others until the very end, it was so satisfying when the connections all finally fell into place. I think everyone should read this book!!!

An offering to the belief that the Story can be the greatest sacrament a story-telling species can preserve and carry through time.

The author tried to connect 4 different stories with an ancient text. Each story was easy to follow. Yet I was distracted by having to jump from one to the other. It also made it difficult for me to connect or identify with any of the characters. Excellent writing; just too ambitious.
