The Book of Azrael

4.75 ⭐️ This was a little slow at the start but as things kept building so did my interest. THE ENDING! WHAT! I’m obsessed with Liam I can’t even lie like he is a tortured soul and I love him a lot. Thank GOD that the next two books are out bc I would’ve lost my mind if they weren’t.

Ok I actually really enjoyed this book. Always appreciate a baddie FMC who takes no shit and the fact that she’s an older sister. The MMC who lets her be her fiery self. The enemy to lovers plot *chefs kiss*. Lastly the cliffhanger we are left iff of 😭

I feel like this book took a year off of my lifespan and I was fighting to get to the end. Somewhat alarmed by the fact I didn’t even learn what the Book of Azrael was until page 483, so everything up to that point had absolutely no relevance or purpose behind it because I did not know what the stakes actually were. The ending was pretty crazy though, and some of the fantasy elements were interesting so I will be continuing (I say as if I haven’t owned the entire series in paperback since February)

This is the first Fantasy book that I’ve read and I absolutely loved it! Wasn’t sure going into it if I was going to enjoy it, but I was hooked on the plot from the beginning!

Hmm. I wanted to like it more. It has potential and I’ll probably keep reading eventually but my library doesn’t have it and it wasn’t captivating enough to spend $20 on the next paperback. I’ve read a ton of romantasy the past few years so it may partially be my own fatigue but here are rapid fire thoughts..the 2 main characters are meant to be hundred/thousands of years old and they acted brand new to me 🤣.
Dianna was villainous and so powerful in the beginning and kinda flipped the script in a way I didn’t necessarily buy. Idk why Samkiel going by “Liam” gave me the ick but it did. Though I did like his character pretty well enough so far! I feel like the main characters were repeatedly betrayed by the same people over and over and never learned from their mistakes and lost every battle/challenge. 👀
I also found myself confused or just lacking info I felt I needed at times. When I put the book down I did have trouble wanting to pick it back up. Hoping the next book is better because it certainly has potential and I did like parts as well.

The story just didn’t make sense.
The magic was completely random and unexplained, none of the side characters did anything meaningful and the supposedly all-powerful god lost pretty much every fight he was in.
Too much of the backstory remained vague, I didn’t enjoy the worldbuilding and the romance was mediocre at best.

I did keep reading to see if the plot got any better, but the conclusion is that I definitely won’t waste my time on the sequels.

I enjoyed it enough that I will read the next one. I'm not quite sure where it will go from here.
