I saw the collection being advertised on Instagram and thought the premise looked interesting, so got the set.
I’m pleasantly surprised by Kelsie’s writing. She sets a scene well, and gives a great perspective for someone who’s health determines so much of their life.
Rory was a great first narrator, she’s soft-hearted and introspective. Some thoughts were repeated throughout the story, but it lends to someone trying to battle their demons as they go through the throes of adolescence.
I liked the attention given to PCOS. I have a few friends with PCOS, I have CFS/ME, so giving so much valuable information to hidden illnesses with hormonal imbalances felt like something different, and a great way to raise awareness.
Beckett was a decent leading man. I liked the contrast of his kindness and the rigidity of his body in football games. He was let down at the climax, but soon came back to himself.
And that brings me to the plot. It was wonderful seeing someone withdrawn flourish as she found friends, love, and respect for herself. The battle with an overbearing mother (a generational thing, it seems) was very realistic. But I hated the climax, and that’s what dropped my rating to a 4. It was generic, and predictable, and after everything else that Kelsie had written, it felt forced. There were other ways it could have been handled to make it true to the characters and still have seemed similar. Like Beckett not knowing what to say, Rory’s friends sticking up for her, her brother Aiden standing up against the masses.
I was also confused as to why Rory’s friends turned on her once she achieved the aim of their plotting. I was drawing the conclusion that, because Beckett had been in a fight that night, the boy he fought was Jordan’s boyfriend, but that wasn’t it at all. It just felt strange that they’d fall apart so quickly and easily when they’d shared such a great bond.
Overall it was a great read though, and I’ll be making my way through the rest of the Curvy Girls Club books.

I loved the message in this book. I wish I read this book a few years ago when I hated my body and curves because I think It would have helped me to read a book with a message like this. The romance between Rory and Beckett was cute. Even though I am doing a lot better now with my self-esteem en self-worth, this book was still hard-hitting for me at times because a lot of the thoughts Rory has about her body were thought processes that I went through and struggled with a lot and still struggle with sometimes. I had tears in my eyes multiple times at the end and I think it's imperative to have book like this spread the message that your weight and curves do not determine your worth, but what you do as a person and you are worthy of love no matter your size or weight.
This was a sweet, lighthearted YA romance. The beginning was a little hard to take with so many people bullying the girl for her weight and blaming her for her PCOS diagnosis. If you can get through the first 5 or 6 chapters, things get better and it is a really enjoyable story. The last act breakup lasted too long for me, but I almost always say that. I was missing Kelsie Hoss’s books after I finished the Hello series, so I decided to check out her YA series. Can’t wait to continue on the next book.
