I understand why my daughter liked it…definitely written for a young adult. I did like the focus on friends and her relationship with her mom, so there was more to the character than just getting the guy.

This was very American and clicheed but I think that was exactly the point. It was very cute, too. Some things hit me hart, especially her relationship with her mom because I saw so many similarities there to my own mother, albeit mine really isn't quite as extreme. But yeah, this was a fun, relaxing read.

I wanted to love this book so much but unfortunately I didn't.
I really wish an author would write about a plus sized MC without giving an excuse. It's almost like we could only accept Rory's weight because she received a pcos diagnosis.
Also do they need a glow up to be seen? The MMC told her otherwise but it felt like that's what we were being led to in the story. She's more beautiful because of make up, hair, clothes etc.
I have to say I softened when I listened to the authors notes and her sharing her experience. It made me choke up having had a similar story.

Cute easy little predictable story. Haven't we all been the chubby girl wanting to fight back at the bullies.
About 1/2 the way through there was a sentence that let me know exactly how the 2nd act would go and I almost DNF'd but figured I'd made it that far. Probably won't ready the remainder of the series.

Once in a while, I’ll go back to a teenage rom-com just for fun.
This one seemed promising especially because of the female friendship and the curvy girl rep.
Turned out, it wasn’t great. Rory’s character isn’t very likable. One second she’s defeated and the next she’s super confident and happy.
The girl friendship started out good but crumpled real fast and in such a stupid and non feminist way, it was disappointing. And that’s without mentioning the pretty, skinny, bitchy mean girl stereotype always saying and doing awful things to the heroine just for the heck of it.
And I get that it’s a rom-com but come on. You don’t need a guy to tell you you have value or a boyfriend to know you are lovable.
So yeah…so many stereotypes and obvious tropes for my tastes. It was too much. I expected better.
