My taste in TV is horrible, so naturally a book about a girl who's a reality TV star (think one of the Gosselin kids from "Jon and Kate Plus 8") was ten kinds of appealing to me. And I really enjoyed this! But my rating got knocked down a star because of the book's unhealthy portrayals of anxiety disorders and relationships. Anxiety medication does NOT always make you feel "not yourself," and that is an incredibly invalid reason for not getting help. And if you or your significant other is basing the future around each other, you are doing something very, very wrong. Period.
I could go on, but I won't. Four stars anyway because I did like this book in general!

Something Real got me out of my slump! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It's refreshing and easy to read. However, the pacing felt uneven to me. Nevertheless, it made me realize a few things about myself and my perceptions, which is really what's important to me.

Something Real was on my radar for quite some time, but I just never really felt like picking it up. I actually bought it at least three months ago when we got the e-book settlement money. Something finally called out to me and I decided to read it. I have been on a contemporary kick lately.

I thought the inside view into the life of a reality tv star was really interesting. Chloe (Bonnie) was really cool, she was real, normal and relate-able. I really thought she was written well and I could fell the emotions of the story through her.
I thought the way the book was broken down into episodes and interviews was a great way to pull you into the story. I made it flow differently, but totally worked.
Benny was awesome. I want him to be my brother. I love him, his personality and how loyal he was. I think him, Matt, Patrick and I could be a posse.
Patrick, oh Patrick. He was definitely swoony. I loved that he has a crush on Chloe FOREVER before he makes a move. So stinking cute!
Gripes:
The mother was just so awful, I wanted her to really get what she deserves or at least figure it out. I don't want to spoil anything, but she never really does get it. I guess it shows how important money and fame was to her. Sad.
The story was good, but it wasn't mind blowing. I had an enjoyable time reading it and recommend it but it isn't a book I will reread.

A Flurry of Ponderings

This book is about a girl named Bonnie Baker. All her life she has been on a reality tv show called Baker Dozen with her twelve siblings and parents. The show has been canceled for about four years and Bonnie finally has a relatively normal life. She has friends that know her as Chloe (they don't known she is Bonnie Baker from the reality tv show) and goes to high school and has a crush on a guy in her government class. Then one day she goes home from school and she sees a bunch of cameras and cars at her house and she finds out that the tv show is back.
Bonnie wants to live a normal life away from the cameras. She wants to be a regular teenager that doesn't have paparazzi following her around everywhere but her mother is making her be on the show.
I absolutely loved this book! The characters are amazing. It was interesting to see the relationship between her mother and her.
This books deals with a lot of stuff. It has such a good romance, family drama, and it has so many funny parts. This book kept me entertained and wanting to read more. The writing style was also amazing. I would recommend it if you are interested in reading it!

Something Real follows Chloe Baker better known as Bonnie Baker of the reality tv show, Baker's Dozen". Think Kate Plus 8 etc etc. Chloe's entire life has basically been in front of cameras for all the world to see (literally, her birth was televised) and how the affects of living her life on camera has affected her emotionally and mentally. When she was 13, she attempted suicide because her parents were divorcing and the cameras were in her face all the time. Her parents stopped the show after that. So now four years later, she's in high school trying to be normal and almost succeeding, but the cameras are back.
I really enjoyed this one. I didn't absolutely love it because I didn't get that emotional punch in the gut that I was expecting hence my four star rating. But I think the best part about this is the familial relationships. I really loved how much Chloe and Benton, her brother, cared about each other. Benton is also gay and I liked his side story and OMG I WOULD LOVE A NOVELLA OR SPIN OFF OF BENTON AND MATT AND HOW THEY FELL IN LOVE PLS THANKS. This is one of the best and most touching sibling relationships I've ever read. The portrayal of family as a whole was realistic and sort of hard to read about. This picture perfect family, literally, has real flaws and ugly moments that can't be taken back. I felt so bad for Chloe. I mean her huge flaw was that she ran away from her problems but it acknowledged and I can't even blame her or get annoyed with her. The pace of novel was great and engaging. I liked the ending because it wasn't perfect. Overally a really solid YA contemporary and debut!

I just, it was, no. The last one hundred pages were the only good part. Everything else was boring as hell. Nothing happened. This book had no plot. The last one hundred pages were the only good part.
I read pretty much all of this in one go. Such a fantastic premise and it made me so angry on Chloe's behalf. Review will be up soon!
I’m very conflicted with this book. Part of me wants to say I hated it because of how outrageous the plot was, but the other part of me (the bigger part of me) knows I should take the story as is and just rave over the love story between Patrick and Chloe. Their romance made me so happy (cheese and all) and I was so excited to see how their relationship was at the end of the book. My main problem with this book is the ending. I feel like the struggle with MetaReal and Chloe’s mom was never truly resolved. Because of this, I feel like the story wasn’t really wrapped up. I didn’t necessarily want their relationship to heal, but I did want some sort of resolution. Overall a fun read!
