“Because I’m one of them? No, because you’re one of us.” I mean c’mon 😭 Backman just gets it. The people of Beartown feel so real it hurts, their flaws, their love, their heartbreak. This sequel has the same depth and humanity that made me fall in love with Beartown in the first place, and I’d follow these characters anywhere.

It took a while after Beartown for me to pick this book up. I was left shocked by Beartown and loved it so much but felt that the story was done and the novel could have been a standalone. So I found this book much like any other second book in a series, one where lots of world building and setting the scene happens. For me this meant that it was tough to get into but it ended well. We got so many new and vibrant characters and so much development of the world which was amazingly well done. I loved the understanding of people and the idea that we all hold both good and bad within us which is kinda the point. Definitely a must read series.
