I love the patterns in this book. The patterns I have knitted are the pig, the penguin, the mouse, one of the teddy bears, and I have knitted the elephant 7 times. That has to be my favorite pattern, and my go-to for gifts. The elephant pattern was my gateway pattern from only knitting rectangles to knitting more complex shapes. There is a bit of an error in the elephant pattern though; on row 51 it says to knit, but it should be a purl row. If it is knit, it will create a ridge on the head that isn't seen in the book's photos.
The patterns are written to be knit flat and seamed(great news for people who don't knit in the round)with the exception of the snake, and possibly another one that I might not recall. There are cute little stories to accompany the patterns, and it made knitting the toys that much more fun. What I would have preferred when I was first learning would have been stitch counts on each row where increases or decreases were happening. I know not every pattern does this, but on ones with a lot of increasing and decreasing it would have made it a lot easier to keep track of my stitches.
I really enjoyed learning from this book, and I still enjoy knitting from it.
