This book should have been amazing.
SpoilerFrankenstein, but with dinosaurs?!?!
But it wasn't amazing to me. It was painfully boring and full of so much science jargon that I felt like I was back in high school chemistry.

A boring tale in which two mid scientists and a psychopath commit animal cruelty all for fame and greed.

lots of great stuff in here! I love that Mary never backed down from being angry at the way she was treated. I think all too often, as women, we're expected to eventually get over it after being upset for a while. that there's a certain amount of resistance and anger that men will put up with "as a treat" for us and then we're expected to shut up again. Mary never did that and I love that about her.

I will say this moved a little slow which is usually fine for me I'm down for a slow paced book but it did drag a bit at times. I also could have done with a little more exploration of the ethics of this creation while they were making it, not just after it came to life. I think that would have been an interesting juxtaposition with the original story, to have Mary consider the ethical questions that Victor only faced after he'd already created the creature.

other than that very good!! looooove a Victorian era sapphic relationship

I enjoyed this ode/ mash-up to Frankenstein and prehistoric creatures immensely. The writing was engaging, the characters interesting, the resolution compelling. If you love the idea of a Frankenstein-esq story from the female perspective, narratives including the female fight to be allowed in scientific studies and women that can’t help but have their abrasive side shine (hey, that’s me!) this is the story for you.

This dragged up plenty of my own social insecurities. Mary, we are kin.
