mary was a great character to follow; i think the author did a fine job of portraying her as radical for the time period without just being a mouthpiece.
i was still annoyed by the way the book fell into the common trope of having to have that one token Minority Good Man -- especially because the author was too afraid to acknowledge the obvious privilege said man had over mary.
