as a certified frankenstein hoe, this book was written for me specifically

As with any debut I recognize there are valid critiques, but honestly I don't care because this entire book felt like it was written for me specifically (Frankenstein! Dinosaurs! Sapphics! I'm obsessed with all of these things!). It was moody, atmospheric, and delicious, and easily one of my favorite reads last year (this is a belated review).

This book was fine. Simply fine. The plot moved in fits and starts with way too many slow moving parts that didn’t move the story forward at all. It was written well, and clearly researched well, but just…meh. I kept hoping it would be more mysterious, more shocking, more frightening, more something. Anything. It was interesting at times, but mostly just rambling, and the ending was too tidy a wrap-up. 2.5 stars.
