Wow, what can I say? I thoroughly enjoyed reading Lady Midnight. I felt for all of the characters, I had favorites who turned into less desirable characters towards the end. I thought I'd predicted who the killer was and then a sense of dread and realisation and I found myself flicking back to earlier parts of the story to cement what I now knew was true before Emma pieced it together herself. I can't wait to read the next installment! I'm especially looking forward to seeing how Kit and Ty interact with each other.

Wat een geweldig eerste deel van deze nieuwe trilogie in de wereld van de Schaduwjagers!
Volop spanning, verraad, duistere magie en een toets romantiek... ik ben zó benieuwd hoe het verder gaat!

One of my favourite books in this universe so far! Such a good mix of fae politics and lore, a cult, angsty forbidden romance (with zero incest), struggling teens trying to parent their siblings, dark magic, and a murder mystery set against the backdrop of LA.

Not gonna bother writing in depth reviews of these because everyone and their mum has read them, but this was GREAT. I’m really invested in this family, the chemistry and dynamic between Emma and Julian, and the new Big Bad of this trilogy. I’m sold!

“Being told that love is forbidden does not kill love. It strengthens it.”

This was such a good book! It feels so good to be back in the Shadowhunters Universe with Cassandra Clare, I forget how much I love her writing every time I take a break between the series. I found the name of the book, chapter names, and the Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe tie in was really cool. I was shocked with how closely this felt to my feelings of The Infernal Devices, which was pretty much 5 stars across the board. I think Emma and Julian are absolutely adorable and deserve so much more in the world. I feel similarly about Cristina, who no one deserves and I truly wasn't ready to have because of how much I love her as a character. She is so wise, well spoken and has such a wonderful perspective on life. She's also a GREAT friend, if you know you know...

I cannot explain the feeling in my chest that I experience when I read Cassandra Clare's books. Honestly I don't know why I keep reading them because the ending is always so brutally painful and I don't know if I actually enjoy the feeling of my heart being ripped out of my chest. One of the other things I enjoy in this book is the frequent visits and POVs of other characters from TID & TMI. Shoutout to Church who always makes me smile.

“Why all these paintings of you? Because I’m an artist, Emma. These pictures are my heart. And if my heart was a canvas, every square inch of it would be painted over with you.”

Parabatai. Two warriors bound for life, one soul in two bodies. Your shelter, your friend, your better half.
“Parabatai. The one who understands your music.” Shadowhunters take great pride in their law and it causes a lot of problems for Emma and Julian along the way. This book has one of the most heart breaking romances I've ever read. I feel such anguish when I think about the situation at hand between the two of them. ”The Law is hard, but it is the Law.” Forbidden feelings that feel torturous to know and I might just have to binge the entire series this week to get some form of resolution for my broken soul.

“You'll fix me, because we're parabatai. We're forever.”
