Some of this is a little clunky because I think it’s an earlier book of Reid’s, but I just love her writing and her spunky heroines!

Wow ok. I did NOT like the hero Tobias AT ALL. I thought he was a total prick who was selfish, rude and down right cold. His reasoning behind acting that way
Was BS. I get that it would affect you but that’s no excuse to treat people like they mean nothing. What a tool. So why the 3 stars? It comes down to the fact that I enjoy the authors writing and the heroine was alright. I was tempted to give it 2 stars but opted for the higher one just due to the author.

She is a Hoyden who needs to marry because she has been tainted by her fathers suicide. Her stepfather is ill and when he dies, she will have nothing.
He does not like scandal because his family has been immersed in scandal all his life. He keeps tight control on his emotions and he does not want to
see anyone else express theirs either.
Of course, there is a spark and then sex in a laundry closet and then they must marry.
I loved that she likes to ride astride and fence and swim. All things that are supposed to be for men.

Some of the conflict got a little irritating but the fact that she fucks off and they cannot find her is excellent. His grovel is a really good one too.

This narrator is truly excellent! She uses super subtle vocal shifts for the two different POVs which are distinct enough to develop the separate characters but in no way overdone. Just a delight to read!

Review of the digital edition:
This is the best of historical romance. There are depths of frivolous emotions, traumatic backstories, implausible coincidences, and two characters perfect for each other just falling into a relationship—everything you could expect and want from an over-the-top and a bit unhinged regency romance.
