*I obviously got my hands on the arc*
My non spoiler thoughts are this. I genuinely had no expectations for this book or author. This book has one or two too many plot lines, too many cultural refences (a big pet peeve) and not enough plotting. One of the issues is the amount of time it takes place. *like a week?* I feel like the author was in a rush for no reason.
This story had no time to breath. I wanted to really live in this world and see what Julia was experiencing. It's not a bad plot but it falls apart with a weird plot dump in the last bit of the book. If the themes had been sprinkled through the book better I could excuse how the whole thing turns out.
The cheesy love story at the heart of this book is unbelievable. Woman's husband it killed, and runs into hunky Italian man who works at a library? Spare me please.

Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central for this advanced readers copy.
Fell very flat for me.
No substance to the characters and the plot left a lot to be desired.
I expected so much more from an author of this magnitude.
Reads more like a debut than a work by an author with dozens of novels under her belt.
The main reason I kept going with it is sort of like when you watch an accident on the side of the road, you want to look away but you have to know how bad it is?
I have read from this author before, although many years ago. This almost felt similar to another beloved thriller author who took a step into the paranormal waters recently. His came through well and translated great on page, this just comes off as gimmicky and not at all well executed.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of The Unraveling Of Julia.
Absolutely loved this story. The Unraveling Of Julia is a very profound book. It dove deep into life, loss, and love. It had you reflecting on your family, your life, your loved ones who have passed.
I enjoyed all the many quotes from the book. The deep meaning behind them. My favorite would have to be ‘She famously lifted her skirt, showed them her privates, and said, “ kill him, I can make more!” ‘
Julia is walking home from dinner with her husband when he is murdered right in front of her. Grieving her loss she doesnt leave the apartment due to the murderer still on the loose. Going as far as the mailbox she receives a letter stating she has inherited millions and a villa in Italy. Having no idea who this person is that left her this estate and inheritance, she makes a plan to travel to find out if it could possibly be her biological family. What she discovers is something she’s always wanted. But with men following her every move and people getting hurt around her could it lead back to the murder of her husband all the way back to the states?

I really liked how the majority of this story takes place in Italy. It was interesting how the story started off with her husband’s murder. The story continues with Julia inheriting a villa in Italy. She’s searches for answers on how she’s tied to the person that gifted it to her and how this could possibly connect her to her biological family who she knew nothing about. The grief that Julia was facing after losing her husband and adoptive parents was well written. Fiamma was my favorite character.
I didn’t like the writing style and the dialogue between Julia and the rest of the characters since it didn’t flow naturally. The relationship that Julia formed with Gianluca didn’t feel authentic. Other than that the story itself was good.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This might be labeled a psychological thriller, but I found it to be so much more than that. With its eerie blend of astrology, fate, family secrets, and even a touch of romance this book completely pulled me in. Julia’s journey is gripping, unsettling, and full of twists I could never predict. Just when I thought I had things figured out, boom, I was wrong. Definitely recommended for readers that love something a bit different that keeps you guessing.

Lately, Julia Pritzker lost her adoptive parents, then her husband is murdered. When she realizes that her horoscope essentially foretold his death, she begins to spiral. Then a letter arrives out of the blue, informing her that she has inherited a Tuscan villa and vineyard —but her benefactor is a total stranger named Emilia Rossi. Julia has no information about her biological family, so she wonders if Rossi could be a blood relative. She heads to Tuscany for answers. Will she find out what she needs to know without getting hurt herself?
This was not my favorite book by Lisa Scottoline because of the astrology and a little bit of paranormal references but still kept my attention for the duration of the book. I was interested to see how the murder of her husband in the United States and the villa she inherited were connected and also to see if she could find her blood relatives. Even though it was not my favorite, it was still interesting!

Lisa Scottoline is one of my go-to authors. I'll read anything she writes. I did not like Julia. I really couldn't stand her. As an empath, I felt sorry for her, but the shallowness of the character development otherwise didn't endear her to me. The storyline was interesting, but it could lose the supernatural stuff (caused by hallucinogens or not) and been a much better book in my opinion. The setting almost redeemed the novel. I'll always read a book set in Tuscany.
