Only got four stars because it was VERY front-loaded with character details in a way that could’ve been more effective peppered throughout the book, but overall was a satisfying and emotional read that really captured the complexities of family and grief.

It seems like this author has never heard the phrase “show, don’t tell,” or just doesn’t abide by that, which made it not my favorite writing style to read. I generally enjoy books that aren’t too plot-driven, but this one really missed the mark for me. I also found that so many things were repeated many times throughout the book unnecessarily, as if they forgot they had already told us. Just many unnecessary details that didn’t add to the story at all. The dialogue really didn’t flow, either, it was often very structured and not how people actually talk. Also, just really poorly written s*x scenes- just don’t bother with them if you don’t want to write them. And just random plot holes, like juggling coffees one second to all of a sudden carrying a fridge, or Chiti rested her head against the tub and then in the next sentence, Chiti rested her head against the tub again… Not to say that other people may enjoy this book, it just really wasn’t my cup of tea, unfortunately.
