I was actually surprised by how much I liked this book, I felt like it would be good but not THIS good for a YA book (I'm more of a the more chili peppers the better if you catch my drift lol!

I thought I had all of the plot twists figured out halfway through the book, but then I was only right about like half of them. Insanely good read. Can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel

I enjoyed myself throughout the book but overall it felt a little chaotic and confusing. I was not a huge fan of the FMC but the plot as a whole was compelling and has potential. Interested to see where’s the rest of the series goes from here!

I remember specifically buying this book because not only had a friend of mine read it and enjoyed it, but it was all over my tiktok— more specifically, booktok. You see, booktok and me have a love-hate relarionship. I’ve read some pretty shitty recommendations from there and I’ve read some amazing ones: “The Prison Healer” trilogy for example.

Starting Caraval was all fun and games until literally nothing made sense and people were all like “It’s not hard to read and how is it confusing and blah blah blah” …But I have never been so confused reading a book in my entire life. Although that’s the case, it is also what enthralled me the most. Not only because of that but because the game Caraval is quite frankly supposed to make you question what is reality and what isn’t, much to what it does to the characters which can end up driving them to madness.

So yes, it took me way longer than I intended (and liked) to finish this book but it also irritated me to no end and I felt like it was too rushed but I conquered through it because I wanted to specifically meet Legend and Jacks. Well, neither of those things happened. Which irritates me even more but now I’ll have no choice but to purchase the next book because I’m actually very interested in Tella’s side of the story…especially since I believe it’ll have to do further with Legend.

Overall, Caraval wasn’t my usual go-to type book but it was a nice change and I’m proud of myself for giving it a try. As much as it confused and irritated me, it still kept me hooked and I still need to know the rest of the story.
