The most wholesome book to end with the phrase "and then she picked up her knife" ever.
No but seriously this was very charming and sweet and REALLY made me want to watch MasterChef-- plus, an absolute breath of fresh air after a bunch of 400+ page fantasy books. I loved the trans/nonbinary rep, and London and Dahlia were such endearing characters to follow. I don't have much to say, really! Queer and lovely, would reread with a cup of hot chocolate, I am very hungry now.

This is not quite a “Sloe Comfortable Conversation about Pronouns Up Against the Wall,” but it was cute. I like the way London has it out with their father. The cooking felt a bit inconsequential and my main quibble is that the two main characters felt a little… generic.

This book was an enjoyable ride. It was full of some character development, backstory with a food competition in the background.
Pros: I really like getting to know London. They made several challenging decisions; 1) Coming out as non-binary on public tv 2) Standing up against their father and demanding him to respect their pronouns 3) Accomplishing their dream of starting a non-for-profit.
I really like how the book dives into the challenge's with being non-binary especially when it comes to dealing with family who disagrees.
Cons: Dahlia’s character development was lacking. Dahlia main purpose seemed to be a loving and protective partner to London. Dahlia’s divorce was brought up in detail in one part but, not much was discussed on how it impacted her. The part that really disappointed me was on page 282-284. London told Dahlia that she was acting like an idiot. And then they told her that she was a self-fulfilling prophecy and she disappointed them. That is a major red flag to me and she should be running the other direction! I am not a fan of the ending and did not think they should have gotten together. Dahlia should have also not apologized for not wanting to up-root her life for them. There needs to be more emphasis on Dahlia having autonomy.

DNF. Did not understand the attraction between these two. No good banter. Depiction of the tv show was boring. Chemistry wasn’t there. Bleh.

This was a lot of fun, but not a particularly special romance book. Silly and lighthearted, lovable characters, but not a lot of character growth or development
4.5 stars, it took me a long time to get through this but it was pretty enjoyable!
A lot spicier then I thought it would be that's the only reason this isn't getting 4⭐
