I'm between 3 and 4 stars. Impressive on many levels, but ultimately not my cup of tea. I'm glad to have read it! The characterizations are such that I probably ought to give it a reread someday.

Everyone in this book is sort of fundamentally awful, morally grey and in need of a long, long chat with a qualified professional. Less dark romance than I expected, more generational trauma that corrupts two generations of families over a decades old (extremely toxic) ‘will-they-won’t-they

So this is gonna be a tough one to review because of be really never read a book like this one. I have never been so invested in a book where I hate all the characters, but a first time for everything I guess. 

I was super surprised with how popular some of these characters are when they are so awful. I understand the book is about generational trauma but my god these people are awful yet I didn’t want to stop reading. 

This book could also be called “Man doesn’t get girl, makes it everyone else’s problem”
