so this is supposed to be a work of fiction! too close for comfort. terrifying.
I had to dnf it, not because it wasn't an amazingly well-written and thought out story. but because it made me too sad, this dystopian world is way too close to being reality for comfort. One day, when I feel less vulnerable with the topics discussed in this book, I hope to re-visit it.
Haven't watched any of the TV series, but hearing about it did prompt me to read the book. I'll watch the series at some point, after it is finished.
Great character and society development.
Unlike a lot of newer books the flashbacks felt very natural as part of the main character's memories, but I had a bit of a difficult time sorting through the chronology (which may just mean I'm not that intelligent of a reader, ha).
My main issue with the book (honestly, enough to almost make me rate it 3 stars) was that I just wanted more information about everything. I realize that this is on purpose...but it still kept me from loving it. I wanted more details revealed! More of the past, more of the future, more everything. It felt to me like the author created this hugely fascinating alternate future and then didn't fully utilize it. Though I'm used to fantasy/sci-fi series that flesh out the characters and story over at least three books, so that may be where that dissatisfaction comes from. BUT now I see that there's about to be a sequel so maybe that will satisfy my questions.

This book was like trudging through mud for me but it was definitely better than the time I attempted to watch the series. The content is important but the style of writing and lack of character development and connection were very hard for me to get through this book.
