Several months ago I finally succumbed to the pressure to read this series and was less than blown away by ACOTAR. I picked this one up hoping things would pick up and I would start to get the hype,  and this one did not disappoint. I enjoyed this one WAY more than book 1 and I am much more excited to continue on through the series. There is action, and romance, and intrigue, and twists, and just so much fun. I will definitely be jumping right in to book 3!

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas - the book that rekindled my love for reading, reminded me how much I love fantasy and introduced me to romantasy…

This book gave Beauty and the Beast vibes, until it didn’t… I was thrown for a loop with the twists and could not understand some characters. I also loved that while I did go and get the next book immediately, the story was finished enough that I didn’t feel completely lost. It was definitely the right book to read coming back into reading and fantasy and I will reread it more than once.

If you, like me, are new here, love fantasy, haven’t read in a while and are just jumping back into the world of books then definitely read this book and then proceed to read the rest of the series because you will want to and you will love it.

If you’re one of the awesome book people that have been recommending this book and series forever, then thank you!

Much improved over the first book. First book felt more surface level and focused on world building and character building.

This second Book in the series was so much better than the first. The first book was truly world and character building to set up the plot. Sarah J. Maas did a very good job connecting little things from the first book that were hints to what happened in this second book, as well as some really great twists in the plot in the last part of this book. I unfortunately feel her writing is somewhat bland and repetitive. I feel there is a lack in the variety of words used when describing things. I also felt many things she wrote in this book were cop-outs to keep the story moving when she, somewhat, backed herself into a corner plot-wise. I’m intrigued to see what the third book will bring

Rhys and Feyre forever!!!

I loved this one even more than the first one. I loveeee a slow burn, I loveeee enemies to lovers, and I loveeeeee the "there's only one bed!" trope. Their relationship is ridiculously hot, and I can't wait to read more (and, I suppose, save the kingdom as well, haha! I did enjoy learning more about the Night Court and overall lore/worldbuilding). Very interested to see what Feyre's plan for Tamlin is.

The writing really grates.

Ikeda’s narration is ok but doesn’t reduce my irritation at the main characters, their Americanisms and their teen savour vibes.
