I remember really liking these as a kid, but I can hardly remember it now.

I read this aloud to my boys before bedtime, and boy, this was a challenging read for us to get through -- I think my seven-year-old liked it quite a bit but it was a little over my four-year-old's head (it probably didn't help that he kept falling asleep midchapter -- those chapters are LONG!).

I really liked the writing even if the story wasn't all that interesting to me.

A great adventure for young boys (or girls) about a fantasy with two plastic toys that teach a young boy that there is more to the world than just himself. The vocabulary was hard for my eight year old to understand at times, but the story itself was a magical tale for him.

A fun kids book. Albeit with quite a bit of stereotyping.

I was sad that they turned the toys a back at the end.

Charming little book about bringing plastic people and horses to life. Certainly not the only book of this sort, but this one is a bit different in that the focus is on the boy who actively brings the toys to life and makes them toys again. There is a bit of parenting and history and what it means to be friends and even a bit on perspective. And surprisingly readable.

It just didn't have the same magic as the film and I think the book is a bit dated now to be reading to my son.
