Definitely didn't age well, but it's a good and fun concept for a story. Wish there was a modern version.

I still love this book. I think it was a little ahead of where Leia is right now, so it took us a bit longer to get through it because it was not something that she begged to go back to... and the chapters were a bit long for her attention.
Fantastic book! My kids were enthralled and I really loved the integrity of the main character.
I’m so glad I revisited this treasure from my childhood! Such a fun story. And as a lover of miniatures, I’m in love with Boone and Little Bear!
I didn't find Omri endearing, and I didn't like Patrick at all. I didn't really feel anything but annoyed.
Ok, this book is super nostalgic for me, which is why I picked it up to reread. While the story is ultimately about brotherly love, I just couldn't get past the overt racist language and slurs. I almost wish that I hadn't reread the story - the idea of having toys come alive is so lovely, and as a child I remember reading this with excitement.
I absolutely loved the series b4 even reading it,the permise was intruging so i borrowed it from my school libary.
Omri is such a good and thoughtful kid and has good amount of common sense. He understands little bear is a human and is from diffirent era and tries his best to make him comfortable in the diffierent life/era and respects his needs.
Omri does get annoyed by his demands which made sense. He also teaches little bear (indian) and cowboy to live with peace and make little bear or cowboy gulity when he does wrong to cowboy or cowboy does to indian,he trys to make peace between people who do kill each other,in a mere sight of spoting each other.
I loved omri's quick thinking,forgiving and understanding nature.
This book wasnt over done like many children books are and plot wasnt suited to the needs of characters when needed.
Patrick was really annoying, he does not think before doing and sort of is a coward but I'm hoping to see him grow a brain by the next books.
Cowboy was so soft in his personality/nature,you do wanna protect the little guy from bad things.
Some readers do say that book is racist which isnt true,what it has is stereotype of their respective races,but these steortype makes the characters more believable,you can't write an indian speaking a perfect english or has perfect mannerisms,indians were known for being savages, cowboys/girls had a dsitinct way of speaking english. Its not like the character were being assholes to each other except for the indian and the cowboy who later learn to accept each,slowly but surely.
The character didn't insult each others races but rather their actions which were weird and diffirent from each other's. What this teaches is to stick together and learn to accept each other. Omri gave equal respect to both his figurines. He took both of them as humans.
Its a very sensible read and fun in general,not boring. Its short and perfect pased story.
It teaches you to respect humans no matter the size or the race.
All in all this was an amzing read,totally recommended for adults and childrens alike.
I'm looking forward to their adventures in the next book.

I didn't feel a whole lot of connection to this book. I read it aloud to my kiddos and they seemed to enjoy Boone and Little Bear, but overall the book wasn't a huge hit in our house.
