Ah, childhood nostalgia… Check out my blog post about this book.

I remembered loving this book as a kid, and it was fun to read it to my daughters. The creative storyline captured their attention, even though - as others have noted - the portrayal of Little Bear and Boone are interesting. Uncomfortable at times. In the end, we found it to be a fun story that highlights the humanity of its very-different-from-each-other main characters.

Think I read this in second grade because we watched the movie in class. Pretty much all I remember is the jump scare from the movie.

Rereading this book for the first time in 25 years, all the magic is still here along with the wonderful imagery. Yes, the cowboys and Indians stuff is quite dated and embraces negative stereotypes. As an adult, there were a few instances that made me squirm. I had forgotten the book is set in England, so perhaps that explains some of the inaccuracies. Regardless, it is still a wonderful read.

This was one of my favorite books growing up. I loved this book so much and I read it a few times when I was younger. The idea of having toys come to life with a historical background was so amazing to me. It's one of my faves.

Not as good as I remembered from childhood though my kids loved it. I changed some words, left out some of the scalping references, and we discussed stereotypes repeatedly - which is addressed in the book, thankfully.

this brings back a lot of nostalgic feelings. I remember when the movie came out and it was so fascinating. the idea of being able to make your toys come.alive, wow! the writing is very evocative, I could envision the entirety in my head. loved it.

Somehow, this charming and exciting book eluded me during my childhood. I am so glad I finally picked it up to read it. I love the lessons on friendship and respect. I love the hard choices and breathless anticipation that only come with being a child trying to keep a secret. I love the ethical resolution at the end.

Wonderful book. Brings out the kid in you. Wish I had one those cupboards. I would of done that with my Barbies :)
