Pretty cool there's a bunch of eccentric moral extremist pandemic fan scientists out their busting their asses. Thanks guys
The author’s love of Star Wars, comes into clear view, like a Death Star coming around the shadow of a planet, not only from the direct Star Wars references, but from the authors desire for the chopped up un-chronological timeline telling of wildly irrelevant characters, that get a satisfying yet incomplete moment where they all find themselves together.
This characterised pain in my reading for the first half and enjoyment and they started interacting together.
charity Dean, who is she!? she is a legend!?
No wonder that the US pandemic plans were woefully used, when a bunch of faceless ‘wolverines’ working outside of government, were ‘running the pandemic’.
Once covid hit I loved it, and couldn’t put the book down

Lewis is truly the best at picking apart a situation to find the characters that matter and telling their stories. Whilst this book did make me extremely angry at the incompetence and cowardice of many leaders, it also gave me an appreciation of genius that humanity can create. I wish everyone knew the names of Charily Dean, Carter Mercher and Joe DeRisi.

Interesting background on the government's pandemic planning and why there was no real chance that it would work.

I usually enjoy Lewis' books, but this one was all over the place. There were too many characters and storylines that barely interacted with each other, but most importantly it was hard to understand who and what was important. The criteria used to choose these storylines was a mistery, since most of the characters ended up having basically no impact on the reaction to the pandemic.
Was this meant as an inspirational story of what a small driven group of people *might* achieve, a cautionary tale? is not really clear, and the end of the book is quite abrupt
