Really enjoyed this but it is painful to read; each of these women went through so much but the ending was very satisfying

This was a beautiful weaving of the resiliency of women. It reminded me of Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi in the way the story weaves through time. This was powerful, tense, and beautiful.

The theme of the book can be summed up in this quote:
"Perhaps one day, she said, there would be a safer time. When women could walk the earth, shining bright with power, and yet live."

Truly enjoyed this read! I’m kicking myself for putting off reading it but I’m glad I did. There was a lot of really intense descriptions of child loss, so keep that in mind if that’s triggering to you. Otherwise, I loved the storytelling, how we learn about each character through the lens of time between this bloodline of Weywards, and overall I was blown away at how beautifully it was written. I would’ve liked to know more about the connection with the crows and how they seem to be able to communicate with the women in the story, but that’s really the only thing I was left questioning.

DNF.

TRIGGER WARNINGS: R*PE; SEXUAL ASSAULT; PREGNANCY; DOMESTIC VIOLENCE; PREGNANCY LOSS; MISCARRIAGE; ABORTION; SUICIDE.

If you are a woman and you write so easy about raping a child, you are insane and i am disgusted. This book needs so many trigger warnings about everything. This is not about witchcraft, is not gothic or mysterious, is not a historical fiction, is not a fantasy. Is troubling and awful. The things that are happening to these women.. It's a toxic and unnecessary book and i am glad i did not bought it. Is described every example of violence towards women. The writing is stupid and the characters are weak and naive. I am disgusted by how the author tried to show how women can endure anything and keep their head up, but i am sure you could have found better examples. It's the worst book i've read ever, the author did not care enough to write some trigger warnings before reading this book. You won't find anything magical or historical in "Wayward". It's just a bad book wit a bad plot and a worse writing.

The male characters were added just to show how awful men can be, and we get it, you hate men. You are not the only one. They exist in this book only to torture women. We are in 2023, i can't read books about abuse and misogyny anymore. We should stop romanticising it. Maybe the author wanted to show a woman's rage, but she did not succeded. The main plot of this book is PREGNANCY, more than that, unwanted pregnancy.

But i will never forgive and author, male or female, for writing a scene where a child is raped. Never.

fck this book, save you time and your sanity.
