This book follows three different generations of women through separate timelines. Each are, unfortunately, relatable in their own way.

At times the story reads like three separate thrillers as you want to know the outcome for each of the women.

Whilst not necessarily feminist literature this book does highlight the power women hold and how this is only intensified when women are united. A beautifully written book that can easily be enjoyed, despite its heavy content.

Weyward is a book about the Weyward family throughout the generations. However, whilst reading it, you realise that these women bond over the abusive men in their life more than anything else which I found to be an odd choice. For was this book about how men from the past and present don't change or about how women who are deemed as odd are called witches? The latter was somewhat outshined by the former, unfortunately.

I started "Weyward" deeply in the spirit of spooky season, and I was happily and totally enchanted!

It was less about actual witchy magic and more about the ways in which female connection and drive make us powerful; and in that latter mission, it packed a serious punch. All three main characters' storylines were captivating, and though I waffled on whose timeline I was most interested in at any given point I was equally enraged in all three.

This book did actually make me more mad than I expected it would, but the resolution of each story—and the ways in which they came together—made it more than worth it.

Will I add this to my favorites shelf? Probably. Will I recommend it to everyone I know? Absolutely.

This was fine, honestly very average overall, but a quick read. I thought the writing was good, especially for a debut novel, and I liked how it wove together the three women’s stories even if it was a bit predictable at times. It was definitely super light on the magical realism/witchy aspects, I kind of wanted more from that. As someone who is not a fan of pregnancy in books, this just had a bit too much of it for me to ever enjoy my time with it, and some of the descriptions really got under my skin. It also just started to feel a little overwhelming with the amount of trauma these women went through, like it literally just kept getting progressively worse as the book went on, and all the women in this story went through an absurd amount of trauma and the men depicted were the actual worst examples on the planet. It’s a pet peeve of mine when I feel like authors use trauma as the ONLY plot device and only way to develop their characters (it happens with women and people of color all the time) and I just think there are much better stories to tell and women are so much more than their trauma.

This book gave me all the feelings. Allowing me to confront past abuse that I have been through (though much of theirs is very different from mine) and feeling the empowerment of those who've come before me and found healing in the natural world. Checking content warnings is a must for this book as it definitely covers a lot of very dark and hard to think about topics. The resilience of women and the story of this family of women breaking free of generational trauma and always helping the future generations was beautifully woven.
