I enjoyed the tying together of several lives to tell a single story and the pacing of chapters was also incredibly done. It wasn’t a bad read but I’m not sure I would recommend it to anyone.

I did not enjoy that the plot could be boiled down to “three women suffer the story” the amount these people go through is makes sense for the time periods however seems a bit excessive and unnecessary for the plot to move forward at times. This book also had a “girl power” “feminism” message that reminded me of the strong empowered women music that you would find in the early 2010s, it feels a flat and little forced.

Wow.  What a very empowering book! This book is about female resilience throughout 3 different generations. The 3 women overcoming awful circumstances and trauma.  The lovely way it all came together in the end.  Definitely recommend.

I understand why many of my friends were disappointed with this book -

there is a lot of rape and violence against the main three women

- but I have to admit, my response was "okay, I finished it in an evening, it was a pleasant read and I will forget I read it in a year, so about 4 star, maybe 3.5", so if you are uncomfortable with certain triggers, this will hurt more than it's enjoyable.

This book was a semi-whimsical approach to tackling the very sober presence of sexual violence in a woman's life.
